What changed in the card hotel programs, 2025 into 2026

By Steven · Updated 2026-09-02 · 4 min read

Card benefits change more often than the pages describing them, and the hotel programs changed a lot between mid-2025 and now. This is a running log of what moved, kept so that a reader landing here from a two-year-old forum post can see what no longer applies. Each entry names the guide on this site that carries the current rule. I’ll add to it as issuers change terms.

Chase: the Edit credit was rebuilt in January 2026

The $500 Edit credit used to arrive in two calendar halves, $250 for January through June and $250 for July through December. From January 2026 the windows are gone: it is up to $250 on each of the first two qualifying prepaid Edit bookings in the calendar year, whenever they fall. Both can land in the same month. The qualifying rules are unchanged: prepaid, two nights or more, and more than $250 of the booking paid with the card.

Chase also added a 2026-only credit: up to $250 on a prepaid two-night stay with IHG, Montage, Pendry, Omni, Virgin Hotels, Minor Hotels or Pan Pacific, booked through Chase Travel, through December 31, 2026. It stacks with the Edit credit on a hotel that qualifies for both. Nothing has been announced for 2027. The Chase credit guide has the detail.

Separately, the old Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection, once a Sapphire Reserve benefit, became Renowned Hotels & Resorts and moved to the United co-brand cards, with a $200 anniversary-year credit on the United Club cards. The Renowned guide covers it.

Amex: $600 in halves, since late 2025

The Platinum’s hotel credit became up to $300 per half of the calendar year, $600 in all, on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts and Hotel Collection bookings through Amex Travel, with no enrollment. A half that goes unused expires. The Hotel Collection was folded into the credit at the same time, which made THC worth paying attention to for Platinum holders. The Gold gets THC’s perks but not the credit.

Amex also made Leaders Club, the Leading Hotels of the World program, a Membership Rewards transfer partner in 2025, on top of the free Sterling status the Platinum already carried. The LHW guide has both.

Bilt: Home Away From Home opened up in March 2026

Home Away From Home launched in July 2025 on the Virtuoso network, gated to Gold and Platinum members. Since March 2026, Blue and Silver members can unlock one booking a month for $95 in Bilt Cash, and Bilt Cash can be applied to the stays themselves, $50 a month for the lower tiers and $100 for Gold and Platinum, on two-night stays. The 2026 card lineup added Bilt Travel hotel credits: $100 a year on the Obsidian and $400 on the Palladium.

Citi: The Reserve and the Strata Elite

Citi launched the Strata Elite in 2025 with The Reserve, a curated luxury shelf inside Citi Travel, and a $300 annual hotel credit that is applied at booking on prepaid Citi Travel stays of two nights or more. It is the only credit among these that reduces the price up front rather than posting afterward. The list is the smallest here, 865 hotels in late August 2026, and Citi has said it will grow.

Taxes that moved

Not program changes, but they change the all-in prices on this site. Chicago’s downtown hotels went to 19% from May 2026 with a new tourism district on top of the 17.5% city rate. Barcelona raised its five-star city tax to €12 per person per night from April 2026. Edinburgh introduced a 5% visitor levy on July 24, 2026, the first in the UK. Washington, DC is at a temporary 15.95% through September 2027. The taxes guide has the full table.

What changed on this site

Four lists were added in July 2026: Bilt’s Home Away From Home, Chase Renowned and Capital One’s Premier Collection on July 21, and Leading Hotels of the World on July 30, joining The Edit and the Amex lists. Citi’s Reserve came the same month. The price window grew from about three months to about a year over the summer, and every price became all-in with taxes and resort fees. In September the map moved to self-hosted tiles.

Every guide on this site carries an updated date. When one of the entries above changes again, that date moves, and this log gets a line.
