Which card gets you which hotel program
The question I get most often, after “is this the portal price,” is some version of “I have the Platinum and the Sapphire Reserve, which tab do I use?” The programs are named after issuers but they attach to specific cards, and a few of them attach to a membership tier rather than a card at all. This is the map, card by card, with the minimum stay and the credit for each, because those two facts decide most bookings.
Chase Sapphire Reserve: The Edit
The Sapphire Reserve, the Reserve for Business and the J.P. Morgan Reserve book The Edit through Chase Travel. Two-night minimum for the package and the credits. On property: breakfast for two at most hotels, a $100 property credit ($200 at all-inclusives), an upgrade with early check-in and late checkout when available. Off property: up to $250 back on each of the first two prepaid Edit bookings in a calendar year, and during 2026 an additional $250 on a prepaid two-night stay with IHG, Montage, Pendry, Omni, Virgin, Minor or Pan Pacific. The $300 annual travel credit applies too.
Other Chase cards can book the same hotels in Chase Travel and get none of that.
United Club, Quest and Presidential Plus: Renowned
The United co-brand cards book Renowned Hotels & Resorts through the same Chase Travel portal. No minimum stay. Breakfast for two, a $100 to $150 property credit depending on the hotel, an upgrade when available. The United Club and Club Business cards add up to $200 back per anniversary year on prepaid Renowned stays; the Quest and Presidential Plus get the package without the credit. The list is 82% the same hotels as The Edit, so for a one-night stay a United card is the way into Chase’s luxury list.
Amex Platinum and Business Platinum: FHR, THC and Leading Hotels
The Platinum cards, consumer and business, and the Centurion book Fine Hotels + Resorts through Amex Travel. No minimum stay. Breakfast for two, a $100 experience credit ($200 at some), an upgrade and noon check-in when available, and a guaranteed 4pm checkout. They also book The Hotel Collection, the mid tier, which needs two nights and gives a $100 credit toward the room bill and an upgrade when available. Both count toward the card’s $600 hotel credit, paid as up to $300 per half of the calendar year on prepaid bookings.
The same cards can enroll in Leaders Club Sterling status for free, which turns a direct booking at lhw.com into a stay with continental breakfast for two, upgrade priority and five confirmable upgrades a year. That is a separate program, booked on a separate site, and the $600 credit does not apply to it.
The Amex Gold books The Hotel Collection only, gets its on-property perks, and does not get the $600 credit. The Delta and other co-brand cards get none of the three.
Bilt Gold or Platinum status: Home Away From Home
This one is gated by membership tier, not by card. Gold and Platinum Bilt members book Home Away From Home at bilt.com with full benefits, whatever card they carry or none. Blue and Silver members can unlock one booking a month for $95 in Bilt Cash since March 2026. No minimum stay for the package: breakfast for two, up to $100 property credit per stay, an upgrade when available. The Bilt cards add hotel credits usable across Bilt Travel, $100 a year on the Obsidian and $400 a year on the Palladium.
Capital One Venture X: the Premier Collection
Venture X and Venture X Business book the Premier Collection through Capital One Travel. No program minimum, though a hotel can set one. Breakfast for two, a $100 experience credit, Wi-Fi, an upgrade with early check-in and late checkout when available, and 10X miles on the booking. There is no dedicated hotel credit; the card’s $300 annual travel credit applies to Capital One Travel bookings, these included. The standard Venture books the same portal without the package.
Citi Strata Elite: The Reserve
The Strata Elite, the Strata Premier and the legacy Prestige can see and book The Reserve through Citi Travel. Breakfast for two, a $100 experience credit that varies by hotel, Wi-Fi, an upgrade when available. The Strata Elite alone carries the $300 annual hotel credit, applied at booking on prepaid Citi Travel stays of two nights or more, splittable across bookings, plus 12X points on hotels through the portal. The Premier and the Prestige get the perks without the credit.
Deciding, in practice
By trip length first. One night rules out The Edit and Citi’s credit, so it is FHR, Renowned, Home Away From Home, the Premier Collection or a Leading Hotels member rate. Two or more nights opens everything, and then the question is which credit you haven’t used.
By place second. The Amex list is deepest in Asia and the biggest everywhere. Bilt and Leading Hotels are the European independents. The Chase lists and Citi’s are the most American. Capital One is the cheapest to sleep in, with the most four-star hotels.
By credit shape last, because the credits are what the cards cost you. Chase pays $250 twice a year with no windows. Amex pays $300 twice a year in halves that expire. Citi takes $300 off at booking once a year. The United Club pays $200 on its anniversary. Bilt’s cards pay $100 or $400 across all of Bilt Travel. Capital One’s $300 is a general travel credit that happens to work here. If you hold two of these cards, the booking usually goes to the one whose credit is still unspent, and this site’s tabs let you check the same hotel under each.
- I have the Platinum and the Sapphire Reserve. Which tab?
- One night: the Amex tab, because The Edit can’t book it. Two nights or more: whichever card’s credit you haven’t used, and if both are available, the portal that quotes lower on your dates. Roughly 529 hotels are in both programs.
- Does the Amex Gold get FHR?
- No. The Gold books The Hotel Collection only, gets its on-property perks, and does not get the $600 hotel credit.
- Do I need a Bilt card for Home Away From Home?
- No. Access is by Bilt status: Gold and Platinum in full, lower tiers one booking a month for Bilt Cash. The cards add hotel credits on top.
- Which programs work for a one-night stay?
- Amex FHR, Chase Renowned, Bilt Home Away From Home, Capital One’s Premier Collection and Leading Hotels with Sterling status. The Edit and Citi’s $300 credit both need two nights.
- Which card has the biggest hotel credit?
- Amex’s $600 a year is the largest figure, paid in two expiring halves. Chase’s $500 plus the 2026 $250 can total $750 this year on the right booking. Citi’s $300 is the only one applied at booking rather than afterward.
